Robots to be deployed to disinfect the Abu Dhabi airport and screen passengers

We are in the third millennium and it sounds almost “normal” to use robots to fight a global pandemic! This is what is going to happen in Abu Dhabi where robots will be used to disinfect the airport and screen passengers.

Abu Dhabi Airports announced its partnership with Tawazun Strategic Development Fund (TSDF) to launch the new CoDi BOT UGV that is a robot that will be unmanned.

The robot will have 3 functions:

  1. Targeting virus strains with controlled bursts of germicidal UV rays;
  2. Disinfecting areas using disinfection of areas using liquid cleaning agents;
  3. Screening passengers

The statement

According to a statement released by the Abu Dhabi airport:

“The introduction of the robot helps operational teams carry out safer missions during the sterilization of aircraft while parked at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH), eliminating the risk of human exposure and self-contamination.”

UAE national airline Etihad will be the first airline to use this kind of technology. The monitoring will be on the temperature, heart rate and respiratory rate of a person that is using an airport touchpoint (check-in or information kiosk, a bag drop facility, a security point, or an immigration gate).

How great is this?
