Incredible stuff in Albuquerque as a 19-year-old had the integrity and courage to return to the police 135,000 that he found near an ATM.
Jose Nuñez Romaniz went to buy socks for his grandfather. Before that, he headed to an ATM where he found a clear plastic bag full of $50 and $20 bills. Instead of running away with the money, he decided to return the cash to the local police.
Talking to CNN, he commented: “I didn’t know what to do. I was, like, dreaming. I was just in shock. I was looking at myself and just thinking, ‘What should I do?'”
Later Jose admitted that he heard the voice of his parents in his head, reminding him that money has to be earned, not stolen and therefore he made the decision. According to Nunez her mother was extremely proud of him!
Rewarded by the local business
His gesture didn’t go unnoticed by the local businesses. Apparently the teen received a $500 from 3 different local businesses (each) and a restaurant gave him a $100 gift card. City officials greeted him on Thursday with a ceremony outside the Albuquerque’s police academy.
